4. Connect in Claude (web & desktop)

How to connect your HilltopAds account and Claude (web & desktop)?

Written by HilltopAds

In Claude you can add the HilltopAds connector straight from the connector directory — there is no URL to paste. (A manual route is described below if you prefer it.)

Add it from the directory

  1. Open SettingsConnectors. Click AddBrowse connectors.

Step 1 — Connectors → Add → Browse connectors.

2. Search for Hilltop and pick HilltopAds from the directory.

Step 2 — search for HilltopAds in the directory.

3. On the connector page, click Connect to Claude.

Step 3 — Connect to Claude.

4. On the HilltopAds MCP Authorization page, paste your API key and click Authorize. No email or password is needed.

Step 4 — authorize with your API key.

5. HilltopAds is connected. Under Tool permissions you decide when Claude may use each group: read-only tools and write/delete tools. The write/delete group defaults to Needs approval, so every change waits for your OK. You can change this anytime, or Disconnect.

Step 5 — connected. Tool permissions split into read-only and write/delete (Needs approval).

Alternative: add it as a custom connector

If you prefer, add the server manually instead of using the directory.

  1. In the message box, click +ConnectorsAdd connectorAdd custom connector.

Step 1 — + → Connectors → Add custom connector.

2. Give it a name (for example Hilltop Ads MCP) and paste the URL https://mcp.hilltopads.com/mcp

Leave the Advanced settings (OAuth Client ID / Secret) empty, then click Add.

Step 2 — Name the connector and paste the server URL.

3. Authorize with your API key on the HilltopAds page, the same as above.

Using it — create and manage a campaign

Ask in plain language. For read requests Claude may ask permission the first time a tool runs; for anything that changes your account it always asks. Here is a full campaign-creation flow — in which Claude, by its own choice, creates the campaign inactive so you can review it first; ask explicitly if that is what you want.

  • Say what you want, e.g. “I want to create a campaign.” Claude walks you through quick pickers — ad format, pricing model and traffic channels.

Step 1 — Claude asks the ad format…

…the pricing model…

…and the traffic channels.

  • It then asks for the free-text details it still needs — campaign name, landing URL and bid — and notes it will create the campaign inactive so you can review it first.

Step 2 — the remaining free-text details; it will create the campaign inactive.

  • When it needs to check something (existing campaign names, channel categories), Claude asks permission to call a tool — choose Allow once or Always allow.

Step 3 — Claude asks permission before calling a tool.

  • Claude shows a final summary table of everything it will create and asks for the last missing field.

Step 4 — a summary table of exactly what will be created.

  • On your go-ahead it creates the campaign and returns its ID — still inactive — with notes on what to check before you start it.

Step 5 — created, with the new campaign ID; still inactive.

  • The campaign appears in your HilltopAds account.

Step 6 — the campaign is in your HilltopAds account.
